Team gymnastics: Xcel, Development Program and Elite

Three USA Gymnastics tracks under one roof, coached by Southeastern Minnesota’s premier gymnastics coach.

Three ways to compete

All three are USA Gymnastics programs, and every athlete joins by invitation. They differ in how far the levels go, which routines are performed and how much time goes into training.

Xcel

Built around your athlete’s strengths.

A wide choice of skills meets each level’s requirements, so routines play to what she does best. Challenging and rewarding, on a shorter schedule than the Development Program.

Levels
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond
Routines
Built from her strongest skills
Training
A shorter schedule

Development Program

The full ladder, built from a solid foundation.

Levels 1 to 5 are compulsory: every girl competes the same routines, so each skill is mastered before she moves up. A minimum score at Levels 4 and 5 unlocks the optional levels, 6 to 10, where routines are individual and skills get harder.

Elite Program

For National Team hopefuls.

Athletes with exceptional ability are closely supervised through the Development Program levels and selected for Elite when they are ready.

How athletes get here

Team placements are by invitation. The usual route starts in recreational classes and moves up one step at a time.

  1. Recreational classes

Beginner and Intermediate classes build form, strength, flexibility and body awareness.

    See recreational classes
  2. Mini-Hopes

Pre-team for girls 5 to 8. Floor, beam, vault and bars, and the first feel of being on a team.

By invitation after a placement assessment

  3. Pre-Team Bronze

The bridge into Xcel: competition-style training on a lighter schedule.

  4. Xcel or Development Program

    Xcel

For athletes who thrive on routines built around their strengths.

    Development Program

The full ladder. Elite selection happens from here.

Coaches recommend the track that fits your athlete’s strengths, schedule and goals.

Team tuition is set up by the office

Placement, monthly tuition, meet fees and parent-coach meetings all go through your coach and the front office. Nothing here is bought online.

Think your gymnast is ready for a team?

Every team placement starts with a free assessment on the gymnastics page. A coach will watch your athlete and talk you through the tracks; the office takes it from there.
